Dmitry Podnozov, Secrets of Investigation star, dies
A date for farewell will be announced later.
Russian theater and film actor, artistic director of the St. Petersburg Drama Theater «Osobnyak», Dmitry Podnozov, has died at the age of 64. The cause of death was lung cancer with metastases to the brain, the theater reported.
«Yesterday Dmitry Podnozov passed away. Our friend, mentor, colleague, our family. The artistic director of the theater. <…> In the last six months, Dmitry fought against cancer. It was a very difficult journey, but he held on and remained strong until the very end,» the theater said in a Telegram post.
Dmitry Podnozov died on 20 July 2026. News that the actor had been diagnosed with cancer became known in December 2025. The disease developed rapidly, colleagues noted that his condition deteriorated quickly. A date for farewell to the artist was promised to be announced later.
The actor was admitted to intensive care in June. The actor«s relatives announced a fundraising campaign, director Vladimir Munkuev said on his social media.
Dmitry Podnozov is known for films and TV series «The Prophet. The Story of Alexander Pushkin», «Major», «Dukhless 2», «Secrets of the Investigation», «Icebreaker», «Chernobyl». One of the actor«s most notable film roles was Nikolai Ivanovich in the drama »Heart of the World«. The film won the Grand Prix at Kinotavr and the Guild of Film Scholars and Film Critics award, and Podnozov was nominated for the Nika Award for Best Supporting Actor.
