Around 8:30 a.m. on 12 September 2025, Mikhail was returning home after a night shift. He was riding bus No. 97S on the route «Krasny Perekop Factory — Bolshiye Polyanki Street.» Between the NIYIMSK and Lakokraska stops, according to Mikhail, a road conflict began. A white Nissan began dangerously cutting off the YAAvrobus. The man said the foreign car blocked the public transport«s path. The car driver started shouting at the YAAvrobus driver.

«My husband was on edge after the night shift. He got out of the cabin, walked over to this guy who was arguing with the bus driver and started saying something to him. He decided to support the driver. This guy was wearing dark glasses. They got into a war of words with my husband, and in the end my husband sprayed pepper spray in his face. It didn»t even get into the guy«s eyes because he was wearing glasses, but he went berserk,» said Mikhail«s wife, Yekaterina.
Svetlana said that after this the enraged car driver began pursuing the bus. When Mikhail got off at the stop near the Rio shopping center on Tutayevskoye Highway, he decided to run from his pursuer. But the Nissan driver caught up with him and knocked him to the ground.
«He beat Misha, knocked him off his feet, kicked him, doused him with pepper spray. And then he got into his car and decided to run him over. He ran over my husband. After that he just got in the car and drove away from the scene,» said Yekaterina.
At first the shocked Mikhail didn«t realize his leg was broken. From the pain, the man couldn»t step on it. He called an ambulance. Early in the morning the shopping center was still closed, so there were no passersby nearby who could have helped him.
«He was taken to the hospital. I found out about it at 11 a.m. when I woke up. We filed a police report ourselves, but we could only do that after Misha was discharged. Before that I wasn»t allowed into the hospital, and neither of us really understood what was happening,« said Yekaterina.
Doctors diagnosed Mikhail with a closed impression fracture of the lateral condyle of the left tibia, non-tension hemarthrosis and abrasions on his head.
Non-tension hemarthrosis is a mild degree of blood accumulation (usually less than 15–20 ml) in the joint cavity, in which intra-articular pressure is not elevated.
«He Was on Sick Leave for Four Months»
After being discharged from the hospital, Mikhail continued treatment at home. Recovery from the injury took about four months. However, Yekaterina«s husband still cannot fully recover.
«He has psychological trauma. He»s a gentle person, he wasn«t even in the army. He has asthma. He never fought with anyone, and then he got involved. He decided to stand up for the driver. He»s also at fault, but not to the extent of being run over,« said Yekaterina.
Because of the long sick leave, Mikhail couldn«t work. His wife works two jobs, but the money was catastrophically insufficient for a family raising a high school student.
«He was paid minimum wage, and we barely survived. We have loans, a mortgage. He was paid 40,000 rubles (about $450 at current rates) — half of what he usually earns. Plus he has a sole proprietorship, he does welding. Misha missed the entire season because of the injury. And after that he was thrown off track for a long time and couldn»t work properly. How is he going to, roughly speaking, weld the roof of some hangar if his leg is injured?« Yekaterina explained.
This year the couple«s son is finishing school and applying to university. The family had counted on earning money for the teenager»s education during the season. However, what happened destroyed all their plans.
«We had no conflicts with anyone at that time, meaning no hitman was hunting Misha to kill him. It just happened out of nowhere. It»s terrible, you understand? We want compensation from him for the damage caused. We thought the police would handle everything because we«d never dealt with this before. And we sat there, clueless, until we realized the case was stalled,» said Yekaterina.
«We»re Afraid«
Yekaterina is certain the investigation has dragged on. The family doesn«t know what to do now. On top of all their problems, Mikhail and his wife are simply afraid that the attacker will find another way to harm them if they continue to seek punishment for him.
«We»re afraid, we don«t know if he»ll be punished, or if the police will do nothing. Or when he gets out, he«ll come and finish Misha off. You understand, it»s very scary to live. You can«t do that — run someone over with a car in broad daylight to crush them. Okay, fine, you argued, just fight a little, wave your fists. I understand everything, people are on edge. Let off some steam somehow, but why run someone over? That»s already over the line,« said Yekaterina.
76.RU sent a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yaroslavl Oblast regarding this story. Officials there said that law enforcement continues the investigation. A criminal case has not yet been opened.
«The identities of all participants in the conflict have been established. Currently, relevant requests have been sent to medical and health organizations for the purpose of ordering a forensic medical examination to determine the severity of the harm caused to the victim,» the police clarified.
That means whether a criminal case will be opened, and under which article, will become known later.
