Two Young Men Arrested for 1.8M Ruble Theft

In Uzlovaya (Tula Oblast), two young men were arrested shortly after stealing nearly 1.84 million rubles from a woman's apartment. The stolen property was recovered.

In Uzlovaya (Tula Oblast), police solved an apartment theft in which a 56-year-old local woman lost almost 1.84 million rubles (approximately $20,200 at current rates). The suspects were detained soon after the crime.

According to the Tula Oblast police, the theft occurred overnight from 16 to 17 July in a first-floor apartment on Tsiolkovsky Street. On the morning of 17 July, the woman contacted the police and reported that 1.8 million rubles (approximately $19,800 at current rates), three gold rings, and two bottles of perfume had gone missing from her home.

An investigative team arrived at the scene. Police reviewed footage from surveillance cameras, and forensic experts collected fingerprints and shoe prints.

Soon, police identified the suspects: two 21-year-old residents of Uzlovaya. The young men were detained under Article 91 of the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure.

The stolen money and property were found and confiscated. After necessary procedures, they are to be returned to the owner.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code, «Theft on an especially large scale.» The maximum penalty is up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles (approximately $11,000 at current rates). Investigative actions are ongoing.
