Teenagers beat and film assault on 18-year-old

In Yaroslavl, a criminal case was opened after two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, brutally beat an 18-year-old male. The incident occurred late in the evening of 17 July outside a shop on Tchaikovsky Street in the Kirovsky District.

As police reported, the teenagers knew the victim. The motive was personal animosity. The teenagers filmed the assault on their phones.

«One of the minors was detained by witnesses and handed over to patrol officers; the second was identified and detained by criminal investigation officers a few hours later. The victim was hospitalized with severe head injuries,» said the MVD Directorate for the Yaroslavl Region.

After the incident, investigators opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 213 of the Russian Criminal Code (hooliganism). According to the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Yaroslavl Region, one of the teenagers was placed under house arrest. The other was given a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions.

«Currently, investigative and other actions aimed at establishing all circumstances of the incident are continuing,» the Investigative Committee clarified.

If the teenagers are found guilty, they could face up to seven years in prison.
