The Spassky District Court issued a verdict against a 38-year-old previously convicted resident of the region who was accused of theft causing significant damage.

As established during the court hearing, in February this year, the man, left alone in the apartment where he lived with his brother, stole his brother«s laptop worth about 60,000 rubles (approximately $667). After fleeing the scene, the offender immediately pawned the device at a consignment shop and spent the proceeds on his own needs. The brother learned of the theft only a few days later and reported it to the police. During the investigation, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and compensated the damage, but this did not save him from a harsh punishment.

The court took into account the presence of dangerous recidivism of crimes, as well as the position of the state prosecutor, and sentenced the man to 1 year and 9 months of imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime penal colony.
