Poacher in Orenburg fined, loses car and gun

In Orenburg Oblast, a poaching case has reached the court. The «main character» is a 38-year-old resident of the regional center.

In October of last year, traffic police inspectors in Oktyabrsky District spotted him near a Niva vehicle in the area of the village of Novobikkulovo. The man, who also noticed the traffic cops, quickly got behind the wheel, sharply turned around, and tried to drive away. During the chase, the Orenburg resident stopped and began throwing something onto the roadside.
The city dweller was detained, and it immediately became clear why he had gotten nervous: in the trunk of the Niva, there was a butchered carcass of a red deer packed in bags, but the Orenburg resident had no permit to hunt such an animal. He «earned» a criminal case under the article «Illegal Hunting» (clauses «a» and «b» of part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and now the materials have been reviewed in court.
The damage caused to the hunting fund, the man compensated during the investigation, but this still did not lead to a lenient punishment for him. He was fined 200,000 rubles (approximately $2,200 at current rates), plus they confiscated the very rifle from which the deer was shot, and the very Niva on which the Orenburg resident was detained. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
