Novosibirsk scientist in bribery, fraud case brought to court

In Novosibirsk District Court, a hearing started on selecting a preventive measure for Vladimir Ternovoy, head of a laboratory at the Vector Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology. The information was provided by NGS correspondent Anna Skok.
The defendant was brought to court in the afternoon.
The scientist is suspected of receiving bribes totaling 4.7 million rubles ($62,700 at current rates) under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code and large-scale fraud under Part 3 of Article 159. His detention was reported by the regional FSB on 4 February.
According to the agency, the center employee is suspected of receiving 4.7 million rubles for conducting research in violation of the established order in the interests of a commercial organization. He is also suspected of embezzling funds allocated to the center under a national project.
