Meshalkin Clinic Executives Face Court

The investigation into the criminal case against former top managers of the Meshalkin Clinic, Artyom Pukhalsky and Alexander Chernyavsky, has been completed. The materials have been forwarded to the Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk, according to the case file. They are accused of taking bribes and money laundering.

According to a source close to the case, the defendants will soon be transferred from Moscow — they have been held in a Moscow pre-trial detention center since their arrest. A hearing on the extension of their preventive measure will also take place today, the source said.

Along with the clinic«s top managers, the defendants will include Tatiana Gritsenko, general director of Vidvans LLC, and Alexei Luttsev, head of Aritmomed LLC. They are charged under Part 5 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — giving a bribe on an especially large scale.

Since last August, former general director of the Meshalkin Clinic Alexander Chernyavsky and former deputy head of economics Artyom Pukhalsky have been accused of taking bribes on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the total amount of which is preliminarily estimated at several tens of millions of rubles (at current rates, about several hundred thousand dollars). During a search, cash (rubles, dollars, and euros), a watch collection, and a 50-gram gold bar were seized from the clinic«s top managers. Chernyavsky is also charged with money laundering.
