Krasnoyarsk Businessman Says He Won't Punish Son After Fake Kidnapping

A Krasnoyarsk businessman, whose son fell victim to scammers and a fake kidnapping, and handed over three million rubles (approximately $30,000 at current rates) to them, said he does not plan to punish the boy.
“It«s about the need to rebuild the relationship now. So it»s a complex issue,” the businessman told RIA Novosti and added that he is glad the whole story is over.
On the evening of January 22, the 14-year-old son of the businessman left the Krasnoyarsk cottage settlement Serebryany Bor with an 18-year-old girl unknown to him. At the same time, three million rubles (approximately $30,000 at current rates) went missing from safes in the house, and then a ransom of 30 million rubles (approximately $300,000 at current rates) was demanded from the boy«s family.
Investigators opened a criminal case on kidnapping. The teenager and the girl were found on the evening of January 23 in a rented apartment on Krasnoyarsky Rabochy. As it turned out, the boy was threatened by scammers who forced him to take the money and stage the kidnapping. The young man told investigators that the scammers introduced themselves as law enforcement officers.
The girl who took him from the settlement had arrived from Surgut on January 21. The girl also fell under the influence of scammers: she was told that her account on the Gosuslugi government services portal had been hacked and it could be dangerous. In Krasnoyarsk on January 22, she came to the family«s house, with the help of the teenager opened the safes, and then part of the three million rubles was given to the scammers (how, was not specified), and part she kept for herself.
The girl was detained and a criminal case on fraud was opened, while the 14-year-old «kidnapped» boy was recognized as a victim. The teenager is the son of a major Krasnoyarsk businessman and government contractor Andrey Kapli.
