Krasnokamsk man chained stepson, 10, for vagrancy

A resident of the Krasnokamsk suburbs will stand trial for chaining his 10-year-old stepson to a bed with a metal chain. The man was punishing the boy for vagrancy.

According to the Krasnokamsk City Court, the child fell in with a bad crowd, started spending time on the streets, and begged. For that, his stepfather attached a three-meter metal chain with a padlock to the boy«s leg and fastened the other end to the leg of an iron bunk bed. The man explained that he wanted to break his stepson of his vagrant habits.

In early July, the boy was chained to the bed for about a week. At the end of summer, the stepfather punished him again, but for a few days. Police learned about it and opened a criminal case against the man under the article «Unlawful deprivation of liberty against a known minor».

«The accused himself does not admit guilt and claims he acted with good intentions. According to him, the length of the chain allowed the boy to move freely around the house, he was not deprived of food and water, and the chain was supposedly removed at night,» the Krasnokamsk court reported.

The date of the first court hearing will be set shortly. The stepfather could face forced labor or up to five years in prison. Additionally, the court may impose a restriction of liberty for up to two years.
