Kazan man faces trial for killing grandmother

A Kazan resident will stand trial for the murder of his own grandmother. Russia’s Investigative Committee has completed the criminal investigation and sent the case files to court, according to the agency’s press service.

According to investigators, on 20 April this year the 29-year-old Kazan resident, while intoxicated, beat his grandmother in a fit of sudden hostility. The 84-year-old woman died from her injuries.

An indictment on murder charges (Part 1 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code) has been approved. The Criminal Code provides for a prison sentence of 6 to 15 years for this offense.

The charge was reclassified during the investigation. As the Tatarstan Prosecutor’s Office previously reported, the case was initially investigated under the article on intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of a person through negligence.

The fact that the defendant has been criminally prosecuted several times before may influence the court’s decision.

The tragedy occurred on 20 April in an apartment on Amirkhan Street. The deceased woman was 84. Her grandson was quickly arrested, and the court sent him to a pre-trial detention center.
