The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Orenburg Region has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a 45-year-old resident of the regional center, who is accused of causing death by negligence (Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigators, on 7 November 2024, the man was hunting in a forest on the bank of the Sakmara River in the Orenburg District. He thought there was an animal rustling on the opposite bank and fired his carbine in that direction. The shot hit not the presumed moose, but the chest of his wife«s relative, who died from the wound in the hospital.
The criminal case with the indictment has been sent to the Orenburg District Court. The man faces a maximum sentence of up to 2 years behind bars, but since there was no malicious intent in his actions, he will likely be sentenced to restricted freedom or forced labor.
