Former Argayash District Prosecutor Gets 7 Years for Fraud
A former prosecutor who promised to soften the sentence for a defendant in a theft case was himself sentenced to seven years in prison.

Former prosecutor of Argayashsky District Kurmangazy Uruspaev has been convicted of fraud. On 21 July 2025, a court in Argayash sentenced him to seven years in a general-regime penal colony and a fine of 1.8 million rubles ($21,200 at current rates). In addition, the ex-prosecutor is barred from holding public office for three years.
Kurmangazy Uruspaev«s service in the prosecutor»s office totaled 26 years.

The court also reported that Uruspaev was stripped of his class rank of senior counselor of justice. «Uruspaev has been stripped of his class rank of senior counselor of justice for committing a crime,» the court noted. The investigation had been underway since summer 2024. According to investigators, FSB (Federal Security Service) officers detained Uruspaev while he was receiving five million rubles ($58,800 at current rates). He had promised to influence the sentence of a former head of a construction company accused of embezzlement in executing a state defense contract. Despite his promises, the defendant received a real prison term.
Kurmangazy Uruspaev was born in 1977 in the south of Chelyabinsk Oblast. In 1999 he graduated from Ural State Law Academy and began working as an investigator for the prosecutor«s office of Agapovsky District. Since spring 2022 he served as prosecutor of Argayashsky District, and previously headed the prosecutor»s office of Katav-Ivanovsk for 10 years. His total service in the prosecutor«s office was 26 years. The detention occurred in July 2025.
