In Yugra (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug), a verdict was handed down for former deputy director of the Yugorsk College-Boarding School of Olympic Reserve, Alexander Karplyukov. He was found guilty of fraud in concluding contracts worth over 6 million rubles ($66,700 at current rates) and given a suspended sentence. This was reported by the prosecutor«s office of KhMAO.
«The court sentenced him to 3.5 years of imprisonment suspended with a probationary period of 3.5 years. The prosecutor«s office, taking a principled stance due to the excessive leniency of the sentence, will appeal the verdict, insisting on actual imprisonment and the imposition of a fine,» the statement said.
The court established that from October 2015 to November 2016, Karplyukov entered into contracts with organizations for a total amount exceeding 6 million rubles ($66,700 at current rates) for conducting educational field seminars, but in fact the work was performed by college staff. The money was transferred to the organizations« accounts and cashed out. A total of 4.7 million rubles ($52,200 at current rates) was stolen.
Earlier we reported that Yuri Danko, head of the operations department of YugraMegaSport, is suspected of receiving a bribe of 250,000 rubles ($2,800 at current rates). He was sent to a pre-trial detention center until March 22.
