Dagestan Police Check New Lead on Anna Tsomartova
In February 2024, Rostov student Anna Tsomartova disappeared in the Dagestani city of Kaspiysk.
After a widely reported sighting of Anna Tsomartova by a Dagestan resident, law enforcement conducted a check and identified the woman captured on surveillance cameras in the city. Security forces established the identity of the girl whom the witness had encountered.
Anna«s parents continue to send out appeals around the world in different languages.
A girl resembling Anya was seen in the town of Buynaksk in the Republic of Dagestan on 15 August. Witnesses contacted law enforcement, but they were in no hurry to conduct a check. After the mother«s official appeal for help to the security services, the new lead in the case of the missing Rostov student was nevertheless investigated. Later, footage from surveillance cameras was released, showing the girl from behind. Anya»s parents could not say with certainty who was in the photo, as from behind the girl bore a resemblance to Tsomartova.
“A check was conducted by law enforcement on this fact, during which it was established that this girl is not Tsomartova Anna. It«s not Anya. There»s nothing in common at all. Thank you for all the photos and videos from behind,” said Anya«s mother, Diana Tsomartova.
According to the mother, it is difficult to determine who is in the photo from behind, but initially it seemed to her that the girl«s gait was not like her daughter»s. Anna«s mother thanked them for checking the new information after all, and the family intends to continue searching for their daughter.
“I«m on work mode. I can»t say about everything that it«s my daughter, or refute it. I»ve been in this cauldron for two years and I don«t get my hopes up until I get a result,” said Diana Tsomartova.
The photo of the girl who was captured on camera is held by the editorial office, but the Dagestani woman«s family is against publishing it online. The girl»s facial features are not similar to those of the missing Anna, but from behind the resemblance could have misled casual witnesses.
Recall that Anna Tsomartova is a student at the Rostov Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On 10 February 2024, she came to Kaspiysk for the championship of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts in Thai boxing. After the competition, Tsomartova left the Ali Aliyev Palace of Sports and went for a walk along the embankment, where she wandered onto the grounds of an FSB sanatorium.
She stayed there for 40 minutes, then disappeared without a trace. Anya«s body was not found in the water. Relatives are certain that she was abducted. A criminal case was opened; it remained in Dagestan for 8 months without progress. Anya»s family eventually secured the transfer of the case to the capital. The case already has 12 volumes. For their daughter«s return, the parents announced a reward of five million rubles ($55,300 at current rates). Anna Tsomartova has been placed on the international wanted list.
