A criminal case has been initiated against fishermen from Aleksin, Tula Oblast, who were poaching on the Oka River. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry«s transport police department for the Central Federal District.
The fishermen were caught in December 2025. Two local residents caught 134 fish of ten different species from the Oka.
To amass such a catch, the men set up a net near a wintering hole—a deep spot where fish gather during the cold season.
To catch the poachers, a joint raid was conducted by officers from the Interior Ministry and the Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo). The poachers turned out to be two local residents, aged 59 and 60, with no prior convictions.
After this, a necessary examination was carried out, following which law enforcement officers decided to open a criminal case. Both fishermen were issued an obligation to appear at the police department.
The men face a fine of between three hundred thousand and five hundred thousand rubles (approximately $4,000–$7,000 at current rates), or imprisonment for up to two years.
