Court sentences Severodvinsk man for throwing dog from window

A 45-year-old Severodvinsk resident has been found guilty of animal cruelty resulting in death. He threw a dog from a fifth-floor window during a domestic dispute.

The incident occurred on 23 August 2025 on Pervomaiskaya Street. The man was drunk.
«During an argument with his cohabitant, while throwing her belongings out the window and saying, »And take your dog with you,« he threw his own dog — a Staffordshire terrier named Butch, which the woman cared for and walked — from the fifth floor. She immediately rushed to help the injured dog, took it to a veterinary clinic, but the severity of the injuries led to the animal»s death,« the Severodvinsk City Court reported.
The next day, police questioned the man, and he confessed to the deed. In court, he also admitted his guilt and repented.
The Severodvinsk resident was tried under Part 1 of Article 245 of the Russian Criminal Code. The maximum penalty under this article is three years in prison.
The defendant was sentenced to 120 hours of community service.
In summer 2025, a similar incident occurred in Severodvinsk. A dog died after falling from a dormitory window. The pet owner«s neighbor came under suspicion.
