Tyumen Rentals Underwater; Owners Fear Loss
Tyumen residents risk losing their business due to flooding. At the height of the summer season, the suburbs of Tyumen found themselves in a difficult situation due to a sharp rise in water levels in the Tura River. As a result, settlements located near the river were flooded. In addition to local residents, entrepreneurs developing the region«s tourism industry also found themselves in a critical situation.
We spoke with the owner of rental houses in Konyashina, where a high alert regime was declared just last week.
«We bought these houses at the beginning of 2024; the previous owners also rented them out daily. After the purchase, much was done and redone—there were a lot of financial investments, labor, and time… — Akbar Davronov tells 72.RU. — It»s still hard to assess the full damage, but most likely, the houses are unlikely to be restored, as they are wooden. And if the water doesn«t recede for a long time, everything could rot.»
The businessman says the water has already swept away the gazebo, tilted the bathhouse, and destroyed the furniture and renovations in the houses.
«Unfortunately, we don»t have insurance. So everything is really super sad. We even thought about trying to open a fundraiser, as we understand we can«t handle all this. We have two houses on the property, each with its own bathhouse and gazebo, plus the land itself is 16 sotki (0.16 acres). We never expected things to be this bad. We thought we»d at most be replacing the floors. But our plot is low-lying, so we were almost the first to start flooding,« says the entrepreneur.
He hasn«t yet turned to the administration for help. But he tried to save some property: the man transported surviving equipment out by boats.
«We haven»t contacted the administration yet; from what I understand, the procedure is to first wait for an emergency situation to be declared. Then wait for the water to recede, only then call in a commission and wait for their verdict. But judging by everything, the compensation amounts there are shocking—10–15 thousand rubles ($120–$180), or a bit over a hundred thousand, depending on the situation. These funds, of course, won«t be enough to cover all the damage,» added Akbar Davronov.
Renting out houses in Konyashina is not the family«s only source of income. Nevertheless, he expects a significant drop in income, as clients unaware of the situation in the Tyumen district continue to call and try to book a spot.
Recall that in Tyumen, an animal shelter on Lesobaza has already been flooded. As many as 11 settlements near the river found themselves in a difficult situation.
The Hydrometeorological Center expects the peak of the flood from July 28 to 31. This means the water will continue to rise and flood territories. And only then will it begin to recede.
