Perovsky Court to retry Ryazan millionaire over child poisonings

The Perovsky District Court of Moscow will re-examine the case of former Ryazan Regional Duma deputy Stanislav Podol on Wednesday, January 21. The Moscow City Court earlier found substantial and irreparable violations at the appellate level.
Podol is accused of producing and distributing products that do not meet safety requirements and have caused serious harm to health. The investigation believes that in December 2018, after consuming «Amka» butter produced at an enterprise owned by Podol, 91 children and one teacher were poisoned in Moscow kindergartens and schools. According to the investigation, the enterprise ignored sanitary standards.
Last summer, the Perovsky District Court of Moscow found Podol guilty of producing and supplying butter that did not meet safety requirements, leading to serious harm to a child«s health. In November 2025, the judicial panel for criminal cases of the Moscow City Court considered the state prosecutor»s appeal submission and the defense«s appeal against the verdict of the Perovsky District Court of Moscow.
The first instance sentenced him to three years of imprisonment suspended with a three-year probation period and a fine of 300,000 rubles ($3,000 at current rates). The previously imposed seizure of the car was also upheld.
The state prosecutor asked to change the verdict as excessively lenient, to impose actual imprisonment, increase the fine, and apply additional punishment. The defense, on the contrary, insisted on overturning the verdict, pointing to unproven guilt, violations in the evaluation of expert examinations, and contradictions in the evidence.
The appellate instance established that at the time the charges were presented to Podol in their final form, he was a deputy of the Ryazan Regional Duma, and therefore, a special procedure for criminal prosecution should have been applied to him. Despite this, the charges were brought by an unauthorized official — an investigator, not the head of the investigative body. The court of first instance did not assess these circumstances.
The Moscow City Court recognized these violations as substantial and irreparable at the appellate level. As a result, the verdict was overturned, and the criminal case was sent for a new judicial consideration to the Perovsky District Court of Moscow with a different panel of judges from the stage of judicial proceedings. The appeal submission and appeal complaint were partially satisfied. A pretrial restraint was not chosen for Podol.
In 2020, Stanislav Podol was listed among the top ten richest officials in the country according to Forbes. He ranked ninth in the list with a total family income of 1,753.04 million rubles ($17.5 million at current rates) and 34 real estate properties owned. Podol is the general director of the Ryazansky agro-dairy combine (brand «Amka»). In 2024, the revenue of AMK Ryazansky LLC amounted to 8.1 billion rubles ($81 million at current rates), which is 25% higher than the 2023 level.
