Huge Cherries Brought to Yekaterinburg at Caviar Prices

Cherries have been brought to Yekaterinburg at the price of caviar. They are huge, imported, and very expensive compared to the seasonal cost of this berry.

Moreover, they are not sold everywhere. The «cheapest» was found at the Pokrovsky shopping center — 4,990 rubles (about $50 at current rates) per kilogram. That«s 10 rubles cheaper than others!

If you want to try «premium» but without fanaticism — head to the Granat shopping center. There, the berries are sold for 5,000 rubles (about $50 at current rates), and sellers say the cherries are from Chile and «very high quality».
And if you don«t want to go to the Southwestern district, come to a very ordinary kiosk opposite the Tikhvin trading house in the city center. Here, cherries cost 5,500 rubles (about $55 at current rates). A perfect symbol of winter: expensive, unexpected, and slightly strange.
According to sellers, cherries are brought not only from Chile, but there are also supplies from South Africa and Greece. The high price is explained by seasonality and complex logistics. Prices will drop in the summer.
In January, cucumbers and tomatoes sharply increased in price in Yekaterinburg. All news about price increases is collected in a special section.
