A Lenta supermarket at Marx Street mall is replaced by a discounter
The spacious former Lenta location could accommodate multiple retail tenants.
In Novosibirsk, the Lenta supermarket in the Fantasia Gallery shopping center has closed, and its place will be taken by the Chizhik discounter. This is already the third tenant of the premises.
The supermarket had operated in the shopping center since 2017.
The Lenta supermarket in the Fantasia Gallery shopping center opened in 2017 and became the second store of this format in Novosibirsk. Before that, the basement of the shopping center was occupied by Holiday Classic, which had been operating there almost since the opening of the shopping center itself.
The Lenta store ceased operations at the end of last year. Now, the entrance is blocked by lowered shields with handwritten signs saying «Lenta is closed!». The same inscription is repeated in marker on the shield itself.
The situation was commented on by Lenta«s press service.
«We constantly analyze the efficiency of our stores: the Super Lenta in Novosibirsk closed due to unsatisfactory economic performance.»
The shopping center«s management explained that the premises will not remain empty for long, and the Chizhik discounter will open here. Apparently, it will occupy only part of the space, since the total area of Lenta here was about 1,600 square meters, while the area of Chizhik discounters rarely exceeds 400 square meters.
The Chizhik chain is owned by Russia«s largest retailer, X5 Group (which operates the Pyaterochka and Perekrestok chains). The first store opened in Novosibirsk in the fall of 2023. According to 2GIS, there are already 92 discounters operating in the city and its surroundings.
It should be noted that the closure of Lenta on Marx Street does not mean a winding down of this format in Novosibirsk. In December of last year, there were 26 such stores here, and now there are 29 (even taking into account the one closed in Fantasia Gallery). The most recent new store opened in the village of Novolugovoye (separated from the Pervomaysky district by the Inya River).
