Prices for AI-92 gasoline in Kemerovo Oblast are among the lowest in all of Russia. However, due to wage differences, fuel is less affordable for Kuzbass residents compared to neighboring regions, according to a study published on Tuesday, 3 February, by experts from RIA Rating.

Based on official December statistics, experts compiled a list of regions where fuel is the cheapest. The top spots were taken by Chelyabinsk and Kurgan oblasts, while Siberian regions closed the top five.

In Omsk Oblast, a liter of AI-92 costs on average 57.77 rubles (about $0.77 at current rates), in Tomsk Oblast — 57.95 rubles (about $0.77), and in Kemerovo Oblast — 58.62 rubles (about $0.78).

Subsequently, specialists compared fuel prices at gas stations with average salaries. In terms of gasoline affordability, Kuzbass, despite its low prices, ranked only 25th in Russia.

According to calculations, residents can buy 1,222 liters of gasoline per month with their entire earnings. In neighboring Krasnoyarsk, fuel is more expensive, but the financial condition of the population is better, and city dwellers can afford 1,405 liters.

Also, among the subjects of the Siberian Federal District (SFD), gasoline is more affordable in Irkutsk Oblast — 1,272 liters, Tomsk Oblast — 1,269, and Novosibirsk Oblast — 1,251.

Over the past year, the cost at Kuzbass gas stations has increased by 13.1% — this is the average indicator for the country.

Previously, the editorial board of NGS42.RU wrote that gasoline in the region had risen in price from four to 6.5 rubles (about $0.05 to $0.09 at current rates). We looked at how prices changed monthly.
