‘It’s scary to drive’: Omsk residents avoid car repairs

Car owners in Omsk are skipping repairs to save money, raising safety concerns on roads.
Residents of Omsk have practically stopped repairing used cars. This was reported to NGS55.RU by Ilya Nikolín, head of the franchised auto service network «Reactor» and president of the regional union of entrepreneurs.
‘Faults are accumulating, people don’t want to repair their cars. We constantly have conflicts with owners. As technicians, we understand the interconnection between faulty parts and those that haven’t broken yet but are about to fail. But owners ask to repair the cars only so that they drive, and don’t understand that right after the repair, the car will break down again. We tell them about the poor technical condition of the vehicle and get a lot of negativity,’ says Ilya Nikolín.
According to the expert, even during the January frosts of -30 degrees Celsius (-22°F), there was no surge in requests. Although previously, in the cold, Omsk residents would come in masses for repairs.
‘As a result, we have faulty cars on the roads, vehicles that are truly unsafe. You drive through the city and are afraid that something will fly off from a neighboring car or it will stop in the middle of the road and you’ll crash into it. It simply becomes scary to drive on the roads,’ added the expert.
According to the entrepreneur, the reason for this behavior of car owners is simple — Omsk residents are saving on everything. Due to the difficult socio-economic situation, car owners have no money and they don’t want to spend on car repairs. They only do them if the car simply won’t drive.
