Chery transfers Omoda production to AGR plant in St. Petersburg
According to the Vedomosti newspaper, citing sources in the automotive industry, the AGR group plans to launch production of Omoda crossovers (a sub-brand of Chery) at the site of the former General Motors plant in Shushary in 2026.
At the enterprise, equipment is already being commissioned for the production of the C5 model.
Currently, the assembly of the Omoda C5 is carried out at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.
The relocation of production to St. Petersburg is considered more advantageous from a logistical standpoint and is linked to previously reached agreements on the production of another Chery sub-brand — Jaecoo.
AGR already produces cars under the Solaris brand (formerly Hyundai and Kia models) at the capacities of the former Hyundai plant on Levashovsky Highway in St. Petersburg.
The Korean conglomerate did not exercise its right to buy back this asset.
Moreover, this year, the launch of Jaecoo crossover assembly is expected at the Shushary site.
