Mobile internet has begun to be actively blocked in Arkhangelsk Oblast. Temporary outages lasting from several hours to several days have become part of daily life. Online, assumptions have emerged that this could affect road safety: allegedly, traffic violation cameras transmit information using mobile internet. We asked the police if they work during the outages.

Assumptions that traffic rule violation cameras do not work during mobile network blocks are appearing on social media and forums.

«They cut off mobile internet in one of the city districts back at the beginning of summer. Now we«re flying through intersections without worry because no camera is working. On one hand, it»s very good for the wallet, but on the other hand, many say that when the internet is turned back on, all violators might get a surprise. It would be interesting to learn more about this,» writes an anonymous internet user.

The police told 29.RU that in Arkhangelsk Oblast there are indeed cameras that operate on the mobile network.

«Enforcement devices for data transmission use either wired or mobile internet. In the absence of mobile internet, enforcement devices continue to detect the full range of traffic rule violations programmed into them by the manufacturer and store them in internal storage

The department clarified that malfunctions in mobile internet operation may delay the fine, but will not eliminate it.

«The restriction of mobile internet only affects the timely transmission of data to the specialized system of the State Traffic Inspectorate, where the quality of the recorded material is checked and officials assess the possibility of issuing a ruling on an administrative offense case.»
