Yekaterinburg Man Saves Endangered Owl Attacked by Crows
E1.RU reader Sergey noticed a bird in poor condition near his home on Malysheva Street. It couldn«t fly and could barely walk. The Yekaterinburg resident took the bird to his home.
The rescued Eurasian pygmy owl can be heard vocalizing in the video after receiving care.
«Looks like crows pecked it, there»s a small abrasion on its head. Need to treat it. Probably still a fledgling,« Sergey says in the video above.
The reader«s video shows the moment he discovered the injured bird on Malysheva Street.
As it turned out, Sergey had picked up a Eurasian pygmy owl. The bird is listed in the Red Book of Sverdlovsk Oblast and other regions of Russia.
«I put it in a vacuum cleaner box, poured some water. It warmed up, drank, bathed, cleaned its feathers, and started crying, asking for food. It couldn»t fly, and I don«t have special food (live mice and so on) at home. I decided to hand it over to a nursery,» Sergey told us.
Out of four nurseries, only one was able to take the bird. The owl was brought in before closing time: now the bird is not threatened, and specialists are helping it.
Earlier, we reported that red-listed bats were spotted in Sverdlovsk Oblast. After the discovery, authorities planned to enhance protection for these species.
