Why Ryazan Residents Give Away Pedigree Pets for Free: 8 Stories

The internet, and even advertising banners in Ryazan, are swarming with photos of «yard terriers» — mixed-breed dogs that never found a home. And it«s not at all about their origin. As it turns out, there are many similar ads online for pedigree animals. Once bought for significant sums, they are now given away for chocolates and a »thank you«.

Why residents of Ryazan Oblast give away pedigree animals for free — in this report by YA62.RU.

«No Means to Care For»

One of the oldest dogs in our selection is a Staffordshire terrier. He is 12 years old, and the handsome boy is described as kind, intelligent, and sociable. On top of that, documents are included.

«We will give away an adult Staffordshire terrier dog to good hands. The owner died, and the sister has no means to care for the dog,» the ad states.

As Ryazan resident Valery writes, the dog is very sad after the owner«s death and needs a dignified old age.

«Please, give the dog a dignified old age,» asks Valery.

The average cost of Staffordshire terriers is from 25,000 to 40,000 rubles (approx. $250 to $400 at current rates).

«Not Ready to Later Find My Dogs in a Dumpster»

Ryazan resident Svetlana is trying to place two dogs at once — Shar-Peis aged 4 and 6. She has to give away her beloved pets due to a sudden deterioration in health, the owner says.
«Due to a sharp deterioration in health condition (allergy so severe that pills no longer work) and the inability to provide twice-daily walks, two male dogs are being placed,» says Svetlana.
The dogs are friends with each other and, as the Ryazan woman claims, have never bitten anyone and grew up with children. Although they are given away for free, the selection will be strict: preferably to a private house, but strictly not on a chain, and the new owners must be responsible and understand the financial costs.
«We will only give them to truly responsible people who can afford it. Preliminary acquaintance with the dogs. As I am not ready to later find my dogs in a dumpster or mutilated,» noted Svetlana.
Among the downsides, the owner of the Shar-Peis pointed out constant cleaning during shedding periods.
The average cost of Shar-Peis is from 30,000 to 50,000 rubles (approx. $300 to $500 at current rates).
«Became Unneeded»
A more tragic story belongs to Toti — an English Pointer. He is 3.5 years old and came to foster care from Abkhazia (Georgia).
«The owner kept this handsome boy on a chain. Now he is completely unneeded by him,» writes Nino in the ad.
According to her, Toti is very kind, gentle, moderately playful, and intelligent. He goes to the toilet exclusively outside. Additional pluses: the pointer is neutered, vaccinated, and treated for all parasites.
Now volunteers are looking for a family for Toti that will not betray him again.
«Pointers are special — they have a unique combination of all the best qualities — loyalty, tenderness, grace, and intelligence,» added Nino.
The average cost of English Pointers is from 20,000 to 25,000 rubles (approx. $200 to $250 at current rates).
«Thrown Out on the Street»
A similarly tragic story belongs to a 4-year-old female Labrador. She is currently in foster care in Ryazan, and the kindest and most responsible hands are being sought for her.
«The girl was thrown out on the street long ago,» the ad states.

«Relatives currently come to feed him, but soon they will tire of it. He spends the whole day alone in the apartment... Yukki»s life didn«t just crack. It split into »before« and »after«. He is experiencing a terrible tragedy,» the ad indicates.
Yukki is not aggressive, well-behaved, and intelligent — he knows commands. Along with the dog, his veterinary passport is given away.

«Overestimated His Abilities»
One of the most honest ads — Ryazan resident Vladislav admitted that he is giving away a Staffordshire terrier puppy [born in June 2025], as he cannot devote enough time. He bought the dog for 100,000 rubles (approx. $1,000 at current rates), but is giving it away for free and only to experienced and kind hands.
«The reason I am giving him away: I overestimated my abilities, cannot devote time and attention to the dog due to constant busyness, as I live alone, so however sorry I am to give him away — I feel more sorry for the dog due to lack of activity. Therefore, if you are not ready to walk at least two hours a day for the first year or two — consider another option,» Vladislav honestly said.
The dog itself, according to the Ryazan resident, is well-behaved, socialized, active, and kind. He also knows commands and doesn«t ruin furniture, because Vladislav spent all his time training him. Sometimes the Staffordshire terrier walks without a leash and stays close on command.
The dog has no aggression towards people.
The average cost of American Staffordshire Terriers is from 25,000 to 40,000 rubles (approx. $250 to $400 at current rates).
«Will Throw Out on the Street During the Holidays»
Among many responsible owners, there were also not very responsible ones. Laika Alice was thrown out on the street during the January holidays, and she is currently in foster care with a compassionate resident of Kasimov (Ryazan Oblast).
«They wrote »Alice« on the collar with a marker and threw her out on the street during the holidays... We don»t know for sure what her story is, but she appeared in the city in January,« says Anna.
According to her, Alice is treated for parasites and has all necessary vaccinations, and before moving to a new home, she will be sterilized. The dog has no bad habits, she is calm, friendly with other dogs, and affectionate with people.
And Alice doesn«t chew wires and is accustomed to walking outside.
The average cost of Laikas is from 30,000 to 40,000 rubles (approx. $300 to $400 at current rates).
«The Owner Gave Up on Her»
A sad fate also belongs to a 13-year-old Siberian Husky — the owner gave up on her. By character, the dog is loyal and kind, she loves children and animals, is vaccinated and sterilized.
«She has lived in an enclosure for a long time, the owner gave up on her,» the ad states.
But when living in a house, the husky goes to the toilet on pee pads.
Along with the dog, her veterinary passport is given away. But future owners are asked to sometimes tell about the husky«s life and maintain contact.
