Solontsy dog attack: boy chased up tree, case updates

The image shows unmarked dogs in Solontsy, where a recent attack prompted official response.
In Solontsy, where a pack of dogs chased a child up a tree, trappers are now on duty. Krasnoyarsk Mayor Sergey Vereshchagin responded to residents« complaints – according to him, the service works on reports of aggressive animals.
On February 1, one dog was caught, and since the beginning of January, a total of 32 have been captured. During this time, 38 appeals have been received from residents. Animals with tags – those that have already been through a shelter and were released back – are promised to be checked separately.
But there«s a catch: some of the dogs in the pack are apparently pets. And some locals are even feeding them. The trapping service does not have the right to take such animals – only stray ones.
«There are clear signs of a violation of the law. Letting dogs roam freely is prohibited in principle. We need to work with the owners and have a conversation,» Vereshchagin wrote and tasked the head of the village council with this.
Meanwhile, the head of Russia«s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has taken an interest in the story. Regarding the attack, the Main Investigative Directorate for Krasnoyarsk Krai and Khakassia has opened a criminal case on negligence (Article 293 of the Criminal Code). Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional department, Alexey Yeremin, to report on the progress of the investigation.
Recall that earlier, residents of Solontsy told NGS24.RU about the problem with stray dogs. Surveillance camera video shows a pack chasing children, and one of them had to climb a tree. Local activist Elena Shulgina then explained that the situation is complicated by confusion over authority: the village recently became part of Krasnoyarsk, but who is now responsible for trapping – city services or the village council – is not entirely clear.
