Playful Maine Coons With Character: Novosibirsk Residents Show Off Their Huge Pets

Maine Coons are very popular among cat lovers: they have striking looks and a funny character. Novosibirsk residents showed off their pets—both purebred Maine Coons and mixed breeds. Here is a selection of photos.

NGS reader Victoria has two pets, both Maine Coons. The red cat Gimzo is just over 7 months old, and the younger female kitten Lilith is about four months old. They are from the same cattery.

“I took both of them when they were a month old. I often carry them with me. I was with the older one at the NGS Awards; by nature he is very sociable and calm, reacts well to people, is not afraid of traffic noise, so I walk with him and go to stores. In short, I am turning them into travel cats so as not to limit my trips. Both have chips,” the Siberian woman shared.

She noted that the older cat has very rich facial expressions, and he almost became the “face” of a cat food line.

Reader Evgenia also has two pets: a cat Simba and a cat Milka; they are brother and sister, mixed breeds.

“They will be four years old in December. Both are calm and playful. They like to be in the room where people are. They are sociable even with strangers. They love to sleep and eat. A lot is allowed to them: they can sit on the kitchen tables when we cook. They have their own little balcony—they like to watch birds and squirrels from there,” the Siberian woman said.

The cats love children very much and let them do anything with them. However, the children do not torment the cats.

Reader Katerina has a cat named Melissa, who is two and a half years old.

“Her character is peculiar: she is very affectionate, loves to talk, follows me everywhere. She is friends with the dog and other cats. At the window, she constantly hunts birds,” she shared.

Another NGS reader sent a photo of her cat Alice.

“Alice Mainecoonovna, in her youth and a year later,” she wrote.

In Olesya«s family, a Maine Coon appeared a year ago; the cat was taken as a pair for a Neva Masquerade cat.

“Alice Mainecoonovna, from early childhood immediately set priorities as to who is the main cat in the house. She commandeered the most comfortable beds in the house, and she also takes food away from the older one, so we have to feed them one by one, closing the door! We call Alice Lisa, with the stress on the first syllable; her name fully matches her character and appearance! Bright red, very cunning and very smart little cat with a huge fluffy tail! No aggression or mischief comes from her,” the reader said.

NGS reader Olga has a cat named Katya at home. Her age is unknown—the pet was found on the street.

“She has lived with us for a year; we found her extremely emaciated, tried to find her previous owners, but failed, so she stayed with us. A very peculiar cat,” she shared.

In the family of NGS reader Alexander, there is a five-year-old cat named Caesar. He currently weighs 12 kilograms.

“At night he walks in an outdoor enclosure near the house. In the morning he races around the rooms. During the day he sleeps. In the evening he communicates with the owners. His gaze is heavy, but his character is light and Nordic,” the Siberian man said.

Reader Dmitry has had a cat named Buklya for five years.

“I took her from acquaintances of an acquaintance. According to them, she was six months old. By nature she is an introvert: if I am home and guests come, she does not approach anyone. But otherwise she is a fairly playful elephantopus, because when she starts to go wild, there are no obstacles in her way,” he shared.

Ekaterina has a two-year-old cat named Severus Snape.

“He is an affectionate coward! He loves us, his owners, very much, but is very afraid of everyone around. At night he comes, lies on top of us, purrs, and licks us; he can lie on the table and beg for food. But he is afraid of all strangers like a rabbit,” she described the pet«s character.

Reader Ksyusha has a cat named Marsel; he is now 9 years old and weighs 10 kilograms.

“He was bought at a cattery at the age of 4 months. Since then, he has been our beloved, wonderful family member. He is very affectionate, always greets us from work and checks our bags. He does not know how to purr, but he is very «talkative,» amusingly coos with different intonations, responds to his name, perfectly knows the phrase «let»s go eat,« and immediately runs to the refrigerator! He drinks water funny, brings toys like a little dog,” she said.
