Krasnoyarsk man nurses owl hit by car
Now in safe hands
Krasnoyarsk resident Dmitry Guzov rescued an owl that was hit on a city road. The bird was struck by a car ahead of him near Udachny, Dmitry told NGS24.RU. He was driving behind and saw an object fly into the bushes. He stopped to check and found a frightened bird. He had to calm it down: «Come on, pull yourself together. You»ll still be delivering letters to Hogwarts,« Dmitry said. This moment is captured on video below.

The owl«s adventure didn»t end there: Dmitry«s driving style raised suspicions among traffic police inspectors (see second video).

«Since the owl was sitting on my lap, or rather, right between my legs, with its iron grip and sharp talons, it grabbed me tighter on every bump. I was driving carefully, but you understand: at night, a black BMW swerving on the road. Who would think the driver has an injured owl? The inspectors were great—they reacted, were surprised, of course, but after a quick check, let me go,» Dmitry recounted.
The owl recovers at home, perching on furniture.
According to the Krasnoyarsk resident, he kept the owl at home for the first day. Then he decided to release it in the forest, away from cars. But the bird couldn«t fly, so he took it to a veterinary clinic.
«They did an X-ray; the bones are intact, but they suspected a possible liver rupture and internal organ damage. That is, the chances of recovery were minimal, and they could euthanize it. I thought, »Who am I to decide whether to euthanize it or not?« I figured if it»s meant to die, it will die. But I«ll try to do everything in my power—besides, no one else would take it. In the end, I decided to treat it myself, using the vast resources of the internet.
After reading about the treatment needed, I bought medications. I«m not a doctor, and this is my first experience, so I gave them with utmost caution. Now, after almost a week, the owl is chewing and even starting to swallow on its own. But in the first days, I had to force food down to trigger the swallowing reflex. Learning how difficult owl digestion is—how they need bones and fur—I had to take chicken hearts, trim a bit of my cat»s fur, and feed her this cocktail,« Dmitry Guzov told NGS24.RU.
Now the bird lives at his home and is recovering. Dmitry plans to release it back into the wild once it fully recovers.
Recently, we reported on Kuzya the bear from the roadside cafe «Araik», who was taken to Moscow by animal rights activists. According to his former owners, he had recently suffered a stroke that paralyzed his hind legs.
