Indian students leave husky mix at Perm shelter

Indian students in Perm abandoned their husky mix Goofy at a shelter before flying home. Volunteers are seeking a new owner.

Students from India decided to get rid of their husky mix Goofy right before their flight. They left him at the gates of Perm«s dog shelter »Dobroye Serdtse« (Good Heart). Now the dog is looking for a new home.

Senior volunteer Olga of Dobroye Serdtse told 59.RU that on 5 July their shelter was celebrating a big anniversary — 25 years. That day, Indian students came to the gates and left their dog — a husky mix named Goofy — in front of them.

«When we came out to them, they explained that they finished their studies in Perm and are returning to India,» Olga told 59.RU. «They also said they need to go to the airport right now because they have a flight soon. They didn»t manage to find a new home for Goofy, and other students refused to take him. It turned out that many Indian students like to get dogs and cats and live with them during their studies. When it«s time to go home, they usually pass their pets on to younger students. These girls, besides Goofy, also had an Akita Inu. It was taken by other students, but no one took Goofy.»

According to the volunteer, Goofy was taken as a puppy. He lived with the students in rented apartments for three years. Finding himself in a shelter with 400 dogs, Goofy fell into severe stress.

«He was, of course, in shock. Very frightened,» Olga shared. «At first he growled, but now he has calmed down. Goofy is very well-mannered, he holds his bathroom needs until the right time. He is a very sociable dog but asserts his boundaries. A family-oriented, intelligent, and handsome companion for a person. He is not a guard dog.»

In early January, dozens of emaciated dogs were taken and removed from Perm«s animal emergency station »Antidoghanter«. Later we showed how the animals changed.
