House Centipede Found in Sugar Bag in Volgograd Region

In one of the villages of the Volgograd region, a video was filmed of a sugar-loving centipede. The playful house centipede crawled into a bag of sugar and puzzled the homeowner: what to do with it next? And while residents wonder how it got into their home and how to get rid of it, biologists warn: while you sleep, this cute creature is ridding you of moths, mosquitoes, cockroaches, and other pests.
The footage was shared by a reader of V1.RU, who decided to close the compote, reached for the sugar, and came face-to-face with a beautiful centipede. Who was more frightened—hard to say. But the filming clearly did not please the shy creature.
“Here sits our little darling. She wanted some sugar. Now I don«t know how to get her out of there,” said the woman, clearly not delighted by this guest.
Biologist Victoria Faifer reassured all the panickers: the house centipede poses no danger to humans. But it is an excellent predator.
“The house centipede loves dark, damp, and relatively cool places. Therefore, in homes and apartments, it is most often found in bathrooms, storage rooms, and basements. House centipedes are predators and hunt, for example, flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches and their young, silverfish, and other small arthropods,” explains the biologist. “In a sense, house centipedes are useful for the home. The house centipede acts as a kind of natural «sanitary worker»: it destroys insects that we definitely do not want to see in the house. At the same time, it itself does not damage furniture, clothing, or food, does not gnaw wood, and is not a human parasite. Therefore, one or two house centipedes in the house are rather helpful neighbors.”
However, the expert warns: if there are too many house centipedes in your home, it is a reason to think about who else you are sharing your space with.
“This may be a sign that the room has high humidity or that there are many other insects that they feed on. House centipedes can destroy individual pests, but they are not suitable as a full-fledged method of controlling large numbers of moths, bedbugs, and cockroaches.”
Earlier, famous Volgograd biologist and researcher at VolSU Nikolai Onistratenko told who is always next to a person, even without asking whether he wants it or not. And why, always, at any, even the most intimate moment, someone«s eyes are watching you. The house centipede is also on that list.
