Hedgehog Snezhana Struggles to Predict Spring at Yekaterinburg Zoo
At Yekaterinburg zoo, every year on February 2nd, they predict spring. This time, the weather prediction was entrusted to a novice meteorologist—a three-year-old African hedgehog named Snezhana. The little one got so nervous that she almost failed the mission.
In front of Snezhana, they placed four bowls with larvae—the hedgehog«s favorite treat. Next to each was a card indicating the weather: snowy, rainy, with variable precipitation, and sunny. The animal just had to choose the right bowl and eat the treat.
But Snezhana for some reason got nervous and started rushing between the bowls. First, she reached for «sunny», then overturned «snow», and in the end, never settled on any prediction. But the zoo still figured out how to interpret her forecast.
«The result is ambiguous, 50-50. Both warm sunshine and snow are expected. We hope there will be more sun; snow has already fallen in large amounts,» said the zoo.
And forecasters from the Ural Hydrometeorological Center told what the weather will be like in the coming days. Sverdlovsk Oblast will be buried in snow.
