Elite kittens found abandoned on streets
Breeders charge an average of 30,000 to 80,000 rubles ($370 to $990) for Burmese cats, considered an elite breed.
In Novodvinsk, two Burmese kittens were being rehomed. The charming boy and girl ended up in the safe hands of local resident Tatyana Ulyanovskaya, who rescues and sterilizes stray animals. She told 29.RU this unusual story.
The rescued kittens appear healthy despite their ordeal, showing signs of previous indoor living.
First, Tatyana found a gray-blue kitten on her property — it was stressed and meowing plaintively.
Tatyana Ulyanovskaya regularly shares adoption posts on her VK page, helping many animals.
Local volunteers frequently encounter abandoned purebred cats, including Maine Coons left at dachas.
«Private houses here are right in the city center. I came home from work, went to the garden, and heard a squeak. I was very surprised to see a young kitten lying between the flower beds, all hunched up and scared. I approached, thinking it would run away, but it didn»t. I picked it up, put it in a crate, and immediately started looking for a home for it,« the northern woman shared.
The same evening, the kitten was taken by a new owner. To litter-train it, a crate had to be used. It went in on its own.
«It feels like the kitten is a house cat, used to people, very affectionate,» added the 29.RU interviewee.
A week and a half later, Tatyana Ulyanovskaya received a second kitten, a chocolate-colored girl. A neighbor had found her.
«This cat also came to her yard and meowed pitifully. Unlike the boy, she was very emaciated, and her back legs were literally giving way. She ate very greedily, had stool and digestive issues. We took her to the vet, who said it»s a Burmese breed, very expensive.«
Tatyana found a temporary foster home for the kitten. And there are already people ready to take her in permanently.
«The cat is incredibly affectionate, follows you around, clearly tame, and probably also lived in a cage.»
According to the Novodvinsk resident, the kittens are around five months old. She had previously seen purebred cats abandoned on the streets, but only older ones.
«In recent years, we»ve often found abandoned Maine Coons at dachas in Novodvinsk—emaciated, having given birth many times, with a host of diseases. They were treated very cruelly. As for the kittens being on the street, of course, it«s very strange. I don»t know, maybe it«s some kind of culling? A breed mismatch, and so they were thrown out. Or something happened to the breeder, and relatives got rid of the kittens this way. I don»t know what the reason could be for such animals to end up on the street—I«m not talking about the regular animals that are constantly thrown out.»
