Eight Dogs Die After Vaccination in Sverdlovsk Region
Dogs died after routine vaccination
In the Sverdlovsk Region, dog owners have reported that their pets died after routine vaccination. According to readers of E1.RU, the animals died in terrible agony after being inoculated with Multican-8 (batch 20), produced by the Moscow-based company Vetbiohim (Vetbiohim).
The pet was given Multican
Anna, a resident of Kamensk-Uralsky (Sverdlovsk Region), had her pet vaccinated at the Drug (Friend) veterinary clinic on 15 August. Symptoms appeared on the fifth day: the dog limped and could not settle. Anna then traveled to a clinic in Yekaterinburg, where the pet was preliminarily diagnosed with a ligament tear, but an allergic reaction to the vaccine was not ruled out.
Ulybashka died in agony several days after the shot
«Afterward in Kamensk-Uralsky, Darby was examined and they said: “If it had been a bad vaccine, he would already be dead.” We went for an X-ray, but they could not say anything for certain and prescribed medication. By then the dog had begun to gnaw at himself, and we decided to euthanize, but at the clinic they tried to persuade us to hold on until Monday. Toward night he stopped urinating, bloody diarrhea began, he was tearing at himself, blood ran from his mouth, he clawed at the floor, bit his own groin, even the cone did not help, he moaned. At night he stopped responding to words. We put him to sleep,» the owner said.
Dogs gnawed at their own paws
Taisia from Kamensk-Uralsky owns two German shepherds, Vesta and Raptor. On 14 August she also vaccinated her pets with Multican-8. The symptoms were the same: four days later Vesta began to limp.
One dog is currently in intensive care
On 20 August Vesta«s behavior changed: convulsions in the right hind leg where the injection had been given, unbearable itching and scratching until she bled.
Lyutsik died after vaccination at a Yekaterinburg clinic
«She squealed, it was impossible to hold her. The symptoms grew stronger every hour. By afternoon convulsions gripped both hind legs, and later her whole body with her head thrown back. The dog hid in the dark, her temperature was 42 °C (107.6 °F). In Yekaterinburg we were given the diagnosis “allergic reaction to vaccination.” Neither painkillers nor anti-inflammatory medication helped the dog. The leg was gnawed bloody. The dog thrashed hysterically against the walls and floor to scratch her leg.»
The pets suffered convulsions
On 21 August the second dog, Raptor, began to limp. Taisia went to an inpatient clinic: the pets were put on IV drips and doctors took blood for analysis.
«Vesta«s liver and kidneys are already completely destroyed. She is almost unconscious. Raptor is still normal so far. We are calling every laboratory — they refuse to do an Aujeszky»s disease test. Coming home in the evening after treatment, Vesta died in severe convulsions. Raptor has been fighting for his life since 21 August. The dog is receiving treatment. He needs constant round-the-clock care, and there is no improvement. Before vaccination the dogs had a bright and active sporting life,» Taisia said.
The affected owners created a chat. In it, Irina from Yekaterinburg reported that her three-month-old dachshund died on 23 August after vaccination.
We called Zoodoctor (Zoodoctor) on Sovkhoznaya Street, where we were told that they continue to administer Multican, but the batch that caused the dogs« deaths has already been withdrawn.
Yevgeny Trushkin, director of the Sverdlovsk Region Veterinary Department, said that eight dogs in the region have now died after use of the drug.
«The problem exists, and it is a fairly big problem. To date, unfortunately, about 8 animals have died in the region due to the use of this vaccine. It has been withdrawn from all retail outlets — at least, that is the information I have. Sellers themselves or Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) have the right to withdraw it. This batch was released by the manufacturer. Court proceedings and investigations are under way. The problem existed and it still exists, but we have done everything to contain it,» Yevgeny Trushkin said at a press conference at TASS Ural.
