Cat Movi Survives Gut Surgery, Seeks New Home

In Khanty-Mansiysk, volunteers are looking for a home for a cat named Movi, who came within a whisker of death. Part of her intestine had to be removed.

Movi was found in spring. A compassionate woman could not walk past the emaciated kitten on the street. The little one had uncontrollable vomiting and bloody stools. The woman from Yugra (the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, western Siberia) turned for help to volunteers at the closed cat café «Kotofeynya» (Kotofeinya).

Late in the evening, the half-dead kitten was brought to a veterinarian. An examination showed that Movi, as the volunteers named the stray, had a foreign body in her body. Specifically — sewing thread. It had wound around the root of her tongue and stretched through her entire intestine, bunching it up like an accordion, cutting through it in places and causing severe intestinal bleeding. Emergency surgery was needed, and the count was down to hours.

The kitten, who had lost a lot of blood, received a donor transfusion to survive the surgery. That same night, a team of doctors at the «Aibolit» clinic performed a complex operation to remove the thread. Unfortunately, Movi had to have 35 cm (14 in) of already dead, necrosis-affected intestine removed. During the operation, the cat«s heart stopped, but an experienced anesthesiologist was able to restart it. From the cardiac arrest, the cat also developed acute kidney damage. Volunteers, caring people who helped financially, and the doctors fought for Movi»s life to the end — and she survived.

Now the cat is in stable condition and ready to find a new family. Movi has short bowel syndrome; she needs to be fed small, frequent meals and only therapeutic food that is easily digestible. The little one has already gained weight from 900 grams (2 lb) to 1.5 kg (3.3 lb), but that is still not enough. Movi is an affectionate, purring, and calm cat who adores children. Perhaps Movi survived because she is destined to become your joy?

If you would like to adopt the cat Movi, write to volunteer Lesya Khlebnikova or contact the cat café «Kotofeynya» group on VKontakte.
