Tyumen Schools Cancel In-Person Classes Amid Extreme Cold

The forecasts of meteorologists warning of an abnormal frost in Tyumen this Friday, January 23, have come true. For this reason, the local administration has decided to cancel in-person classes for schoolchildren.

«Classes for students of the first shift in grades 1-9 are canceled in person,» reports the Tyumen administration.

The Department of Education explained how such decisions are made.

«A virtual assistant, a special program, has been developed that automatically collects weather condition parameters from seven different sources for the current date, derives an average value, and this system then posts information for students» parents about the cancellation of classes due to climatic conditions,« said Anatoly Ivanov, head of the department of the Tyumen City Administration»s Department of Education.

Lately, some schoolchildren have been staying home quite often due to severe frost. But far from always by the decision of the authorities. While the virtual assistant measures parameters, parents listen to their own feelings and leave their children at home.
