Orenburg Region warned of bone-chilling cold snap
In the coming day, most areas of the Orenburg Region will experience anomalously cold weather. Average daily air temperatures will be 9 or more degrees Celsius (16+°F) below the climatic norm. The unfavorable meteorological conditions have been warned by the Department of Fire Safety and Civil Defense.
On the night of January 23, thermometers in the Orenburg Region will drop to -23°C (-9°F). In the northern and eastern districts, these values will reach -30°C (-22°F). Cloudy weather with clearings is expected, with light snow in most areas and blowing snow in the east. The wind will be from the east and northeast at 3-8 meters per second, with gusts up to 9-14 m/s in eastern areas.
During the day on Friday, it will be cloudy with clearings. Light snow is expected in the central and eastern parts of the region. Wind speed and direction will remain unchanged. Daytime air temperatures will be -13 to -18°C (9 to 0°F), dropping to -24°C (-11°F) in the east.
«Before going outside, thoroughly protect the body parts vulnerable to frostbite: put on warm socks, replace gloves with mittens if possible, and don»t forget a scarf and hat. Do not spend more than 1.5 hours in the freezing cold. Take breaks and go inside warm buildings. Be careful. The emergency number is 112,« cautioned the Department of Fire Safety and Civil Defense of the Orenburg Region.
