Forecasters predict warmer weather for Kuzbass this weekend

Temperatures below -40°C (-40°F) will persist in some parts of Kuzbass, but in most cities and villages, pleasant temperatures for walks are expected on January 23–25. Nights will still be cold, but as twilight fades, the air will warm up, according to the forecast from the Kemerovo Hydrometeorological Center.
On Friday daytime, the thermometer will rise only to -19…-24°C (-2…-11°F), locally to -30°C (-22°F). A gentle northeast wind will bring light snow and frost. Meanwhile, haze, fog, and icy conditions will persist outdoors.
Overnight into Saturday, January 24, the temperature will drop only a few degrees: on average to -25…-30°C (-13…-22°F). But in some areas, winter will once again test the resilience of residents — down to -38°C (-36°F). Meanwhile, a warm and mild season will return to the southern part of the region: -18…-23°C (0…-9°F).
During the weekend daytime, the thermometer will show from -15 to -20°C (5 to -4°F), locally -25°C (-13°F). In the southern part, even spring-like warm temperatures are forecast: -9…-14°C (16…7°F).
The wind will change to a more turbulent southwest, with gusts of 3–8, locally up to 13 meters per second. The whole day will be cloudy with clearings, and moderate precipitation may come to some places.
Snowfalls will return to the mountains in the south — forecasters predict local blizzards and drifting snow.
The night into Sunday, January 25, will be snowier and warmer than the previous ones — from -19 to -24°C (-2…-11°F), sometimes -30°C (-22°F). During the day, the thermometer will creep up and reach levels of -15…-20°C (5…-4°F), locally -25°C (-13°F). In the south, warm and pleasant temperatures will persist.
Earlier, the editorial staff of NGS42.RU investigated whether the anomalously low temperatures that persisted in Kuzbass last week will return at the end of January — beginning of February.
