In early February, residents of Vladivostok and Primorye can expect a brief easing of frosts. According to forecasters, on February 3, air temperatures in the south of the region may approach the zero mark, making Tuesday the warmest day of the first decade of the month.
As reported by chief forecaster of the Primorye Hydrometeorological Center (Primhydromet) Boris Kubai, the warming will be short-lived. Already after February 3, cold weather will re-establish itself in the region, and temperatures will return to winter levels.
«At the very beginning of February, frosts will indeed weaken, but, unfortunately, not for long. Perhaps the warmest day could be Tuesday, February 3, when the maximum air temperature in the south of the region will approach the zero mark. However, after that, until the end of the first decade, a sharp cooling is expected,» noted the head of the department.
The forecaster clarified that after the brief warming, frosts will intensify again and persist at least until mid-February. Meteorologists do not expect significant and sustained thaws during this period.
Primhydromet noted that such temperature fluctuations are typical for February in Primorye. Despite the return of cold, daylight duration is gradually increasing, and spring is getting closer.
Earlier, we compiled a preliminary weather forecast for February based on data from several services — Gismeteo, Yandex Weather, World Weather, as well as the official forecast from Primhydromet. Overall, February in Primorye is expected to be cold, but without extreme anomalies. After a brief warming at the beginning of the month, temperatures will again drop into a sustained «minus».
According to Gismeteo, in the first half of February, nighttime temperatures in most areas of the region will drop to -12 to -18°C (10 to 0°F), with daytime temperatures expected at -5 to -10°C (23 to 14°F). In Vladivostok and southern Primorye, frosts will be milder, but without prolonged thaws.
The Yandex Weather service also forecasts a predominance of moderate winter temperatures. The average daytime temperature in February will be around -6°C (21°F), nighttime — up to -10°C (14°F). Little precipitation is expected, with most days being cloudy and windy.
According to World Weather, the second half of February may see a gradual weakening of frosts. By the end of the month, in some areas of the southern region, daytime temperatures will approach -2 to 0°C (28 to 32°F), however, nighttime frosts will persist.
Forecasters emphasize that the forecast remains preliminary and will be refined, but overall, February in Primorye promises to be typically wintery — with brief periods of warming and the return of cold.
