Volgograd Clarifies Rules for Dangerous Intersection

The Volgograd administration has provided clarifications on the traffic order at the intersection of Bogdanov Street and Universitetsky Prospekt. After the completion of road construction on Rodnikovaya Street and the removal of the traffic light, many drivers have encountered problems when exiting onto the Second Longitudinal Highway.
Drivers complain about difficulties. «At the intersection of Bogdanov and Universitetsky Prospekt, traffic lights have been removed. There are no prohibiting signs upon exit. Now, for drivers to turn left, they have to go through a quest. Naturally, cars are colliding,» drivers complained. «They should have just prohibited left turns, otherwise drivers with the attitude »come what may« try to exit onto the Second Longitudinal, and that road section is busy.»
According to residents, the traffic light used to function normally. Now, when driving towards the Kirovsky district, a red light turns on, and towards the center, the green signal lasts only about 15 seconds. «People start crashing. What this change is for is unclear; at night, maybe you can see that the green is on, but during the daytime...» residents lamented.
Meanwhile, as can be seen even in photos sent by readers, at the exit from Bogdanov Street, sign 4.1.2 «Turn Right» is installed, obliging drivers to turn only in that direction. However, many drivers ignore it.
The Volgograd mayor«s office called on drivers to follow traffic rules, not old habits. »At the intersection of the Second Longitudinal Highway with the local passage leading from Bogdanov Street to Universitetsky Prospekt, road sign 4.1.2 «Turn Right» is installed, instructing drivers to move only to the right,« the mayor»s office stated. «To travel to the northern part of the city, drivers need to turn right at this intersection, as required by the road sign, then make a U-turn at the nearest intersection. Control over drivers» compliance with traffic rules, markings, and traffic light signals falls under the authority of traffic police (GIBDD) officers.«
