In the Kurgan Oblast, an «unacceptably high» number of pedestrians die under car wheels; last year there were 20 such cases. Moreover, 15 of them violated traffic rules, did not have reflective elements on their clothing at night, and «died through their own fault» — drivers could not see the pedestrians in time. This was stated at a press conference by Yuri Filipchuk, head of the traffic police department for Kurgan Oblast. Five of the deceased were drunk.
Meanwhile, over 1,000 Trans-Ural residents last year, while being pedestrians, themselves violated traffic rules. According to the head of the traffic police, improving the situation with pedestrian accidents will require the construction of sidewalks and lighting lines.
