Snowfall causes 40-minute public transport delays in Izhevsk

In Izhevsk, due to road congestion caused by heavy snowfall, the intervals for public transport have increased. This was reported by the city administration«s press service.
According to the regional Hydrometeorological Center, from 07:00 on January 28 to 07:00 on January 29, Udmurtia received from 15 to 32% of the monthly precipitation norm. The snow cover height increased by 6 to 12 centimeters. The heaviest snowfalls occurred in the eastern and northeastern regions of the republic. Meanwhile, according to weather forecasters, Udmurtia will continue to be covered with snow until January 31.
Despite assurances from Izhevsk authorities that road workers are intensively clearing the streets, traffic jams could not be avoided. In the capital of Udmurtia, road congestion reached 9 points. In connection with this, public transport intervals have increased:
- Trolleybuses — with delays of up to 40+ minutes;
- Trams — with delays of up to 20+ minutes;
- Buses — with delays of up to 40+ minutes.
«We ask passengers to understand situations when public transport is delayed due to difficult road conditions caused by snowfall,» commented the press service of the Izhevsk administration.
According to Mayor Dmitry Chistyakov, overnight, 15 thousand cubic meters of snow were taken to the snow reception point.
