Kaluga Highway Paralyzed, Tula Traffic Gridlock on 29 January

Tula is experiencing some of the worst traffic jams in the city — all due to heavy snowfall that has been ongoing since the morning of 29 January.

Almost every street in the city is colored «red» or «burgundy» on maps, and traffic congestion is rated at 8 points — significantly higher than usual.
The worst situation is on Kaluga Highway — the road is completely paralyzed from the village of Rassvet to Tula itself.
In addition, significant traffic jams are observed on the following streets:
- Oboronnaya;
- Staronikitskaya;
- Sovetskaya;
- Ryazanskaya and Vostochny Obvod;
- Metallurgov;
- Lozhevaya;
- Karakozova;
- Chmutova;
- Pervomayskaya;
- Friedricha Engelsa;
- Lenina Prospect;
- Maksima Gorkogo;
- Demonstratsii.
Also, Myasnovo is almost entirely in the «burgundy» zone, with congestion on all major streets in the district.
Traffic accidents have occurred at the following locations:
- interchange of Oruzheiny Bridge at the intersection with Pavshinsky Bridge;
- intersection of Dmitry Ulyanova and Pervomayskaya;
- Kirova Street, near Gymnasium No. 30;
- Lenina Prospect, near the «Stadion» stop (towards the center).
Traffic jams are unlikely to clear up soon. Residents of Tula have to wait at stops for up to an hour for public transport to arrive.
The situation is further worsened by drivers who drive onto tram tracks to bypass traffic and get stuck in the snow. Due to this, tram traffic has been halted on several sections.
