On Monday, January 26, airlines experienced a failure in key passenger service systems. The problem has been observed in a number of regions. At Nizhny Novgorod«s Chkalov airport, they said they are temporarily checking in passengers manually.
The malfunction occurred in the Leonardo booking and ticket sales system. Because of this, passenger data is not being loaded automatically at check-in counters.
«Airport staff are checking in passengers manually. This takes a little more time. Representatives of the airlines are also working with passengers in the check-in areas,» explained the Nizhny Novgorod airport.
They noted that the airlines are aware of the problem. For example, Aeroflot reported that flight schedules are being adjusted due to the failure. It is possible that some flights may be canceled.
The Russian Ministry of Transport and the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) reported that they have stepped up monitoring of air transport operations. Specialists from both agencies, together with airlines and airports, are working to minimize the impact of the difficulties that have arisen.
Updated. The systems have been restored. Passengers at Chkalov airport are being checked in as usual. So far, one Aeroflot flight from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow has been canceled. According to the online board, this is flight SU-1225, which was scheduled to depart for the capital at 19:25. Representatives of the airline are now working with the passengers.
