In spring, a large-scale SUP expedition will take place, with its route running from the sources of the Ingoda River to the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. This was reported on January 21 by Chita.Ru, citing the press service of the company «Areal» (formerly known as «Highland Gold»).
The expedition will be led by Yury Skorobogatov, a traveler and blogger from Zabaykalsky Krai, who heads the ANO «Center for Tourism Development» in Chita.
«The geography of the SUP expedition »Areal Vostoka« will cover Zabaykalsky Krai, Amur Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and Khabarovsk Krai. Yury will travel along the Ingoda, Shilka, and Amur rivers, finishing by entering the Sea of Okhotsk. Thus, the expedition will connect one of the country»s largest water basins, which is part of the global watershed, into a single continuous line,« the company said.
This project will combine sport, history, and geography. Participants will raft along rivers associated with important historical figures: Pyotr Beketov, Nikolay Muravyov-Amursky, Dmitry Zavalishin, and Nikolay Przhevalsky. These rivers helped shape the map of the Far East in the 19th century.
Special attention in the project is given to sport. During the journey, Yury Skorobogatov aims to set a new record in the International Book of Records InterRecord. He plans to travel farther on SUP boards than before: more than his own 2025 result (1,000 kilometers 600 meters) and the current world record. The duration of the rafting will be about 100 days.
«The idea for the expedition came after completing the 2025 route along the Khilok and Selenga rivers and entering Lake Baikal, when I attempted to set a record among Russians. I wanted something even more large-scale. New records, new routes. Of course, there is excitement — I bear huge responsibility, and the task, to put it mildly, is not easy, as almost half of the route passes through taiga. But I believe that everything will work out. Preparation is in full swing — we»re waiting for the start!« the company quoted Yury Skorobogatov as saying.
The expedition will begin on April 22. Yury Skorobogatov will post stories, photos, and videos every day. After completion, a guidebook for tourists and SUP boarding enthusiasts is planned to be released.
