Seventh Champions League Round: Inter and Arsenal Clash in Milan

After the New Year break, the Champions League resumes. With only two rounds left until the end of the group stage, every match becomes particularly important — many teams can no longer afford to make mistakes.

In the current edition, the tournament is being held in a new format. Thirty-six clubs participate, competing in a single table. Each team plays eight matches — four at home and four away, facing different opponents.

At the end of the group stage, the top eight teams directly advance to the round of 16. Clubs placed 9th to 24th will play in the playoff round (round of 32). For the remaining teams, from 25th to 36th place, the European cup season will end.

Manchester City will travel to Norway to face Bodø/Glimt, whose squad includes Russian goalkeeper Nikita Khaykin. The visitors« coach, Josep Guardiola, noted before the match that he is happy to have the opportunity to see the northern lights. For the Norwegian team, a win is important in the fight for the playoffs.

The central match of the day will be the clash in Milan between the leaders of the Italian and English championships — Inter and Arsenal. The Londoners have not lost in this edition so far and top the tournament table, so even a draw would satisfy them.
In the match between Real Madrid and Monaco, the home team«s French forward Kylian Mbappé will play against his former club. For Russian fans, the possible participation of Monaco midfielder Alexander Golovin is of interest. For Real Madrid, this is the first Champions League game under new coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who replaced Xabi Alonso.

After six rounds, the top scorer is Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid, with nine goals. Second place is shared by Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City) with six goals each. Also in the top three are Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Craig Gordon (Newcastle United) and Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal).
