At the P.S. Grushman Memorial Tournament in St. Petersburg, 23-year-old Pyotr Gumennik scored 109.05 points in the short program. This result marked the first time a Russian skater has surpassed the 109-point mark at national competitions.

With his performance, Gumennik improved the previous national best, which belonged to Evgeny Semenenko. Semenenko scored 108.29 points at the Panin-Kolomenkin Memorial in 2024.

After the short program, Gumennik«s lead appears unquestionable.

The standings in the tournament are as follows:

  • First place — Pyotr Gumennik (109.05 points)
  • Second place — Semyon Solovyov (88.53 points)
  • Third place — Ilya Stroganov (74.22 points)

At the subsequent press conference, the skater revealed his psychological mindset during the skate, noting that he was preparing for the main event of the four-year cycle.

«I imagined it was the Olympics today — an Olympic training, it had to be an Olympic Lutz. I checked, tried, and everything worked out,» shared Gumennik.

Earlier, the International Olympic Committee allowed Pyotr Gumennik and Adeliya Petrosyan to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics under a neutral status.

The competitions will take place in Milan and Cortina d«Ampezzo, and the men»s singles tournament will begin on February 10.
