On Thursday, 22 January 2026, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, a meeting took place between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The negotiations lasted about an hour and were dedicated to finding ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky was held behind closed doors without press participation. Official details of the discussed proposals have not yet been disclosed. After the meeting, Donald Trump briefly commented on the negotiations.
«The meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky went well. We»ll see how it all ends,« he said.
The US president stated that the conflict must end and that paths to peace are still open.
No detailed public statements from Volodymyr Zelensky followed immediately after the meeting. His press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov confirmed the fact and duration of the negotiations. Presidential advisor Dmytro Lytvyn also called the meeting «good».
Zelensky«s main speech at the WEF occurred at a later time. He announced three-way negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in the UAE. According to him, this will be the first three-way meeting of its kind, and it will take place on 23–24 January.

As reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during communication with journalists in Davos, the country will be represented at the negotiations by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov, Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov (included in the list of extremists and terrorists by Rosfinmonitoring), First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Serhiy Kyslytsia, head of the «Servant of the People» faction David Arakhamia, and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov.
US Special Representative Steven Witkoff, involved in mediation efforts, stated in Davos in the morning that to reach an agreement, «essentially only one issue» remains to be resolved. He will head to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It is known that, in addition to peace terms, the possibility of using Russian frozen assets will be discussed.
