The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is negotiating to grant the United States full and indefinite access to Greenland. As the American leader stated in an interview with Fox Business, this is about a fundamental agreement.

«It»s about full access (to Greenland. — Ed.): without an end date, without time frames,« said Trump, responding to a question about the nature of the agreements under discussion.

The president again emphasized that the U.S. presence on the island is dictated by national security considerations, since Greenland has key strategic significance. Trump made it clear that he intends to pursue all planned conditions.

«We (within the framework of the future deal with Greenland) will get everything we wanted: full security, full access to everything. We will have as many bases, as much equipment as we want,» he stated.

One of the specific elements of this access will be the deployment of elements of the American missile defense system in Greenland.

«The Golden Dome will be in Greenland. Part of it. This is very important, because everything flies over Greenland. If bad guys launch something, it flies over Greenland, and we shoot it down,» the president explained.

Meanwhile, as reported by The Telegraph citing informed sources, the proposed deal does not involve the sale of the island. Instead, the framework agreed in Davos will allow the U.S. to gain sovereign control over military bases in some parts of Greenland. Similar to the agreement between the United Kingdom and Cyprus, these bases will be considered U.S. territory. Under such an agreement, the U.S. will be able to conduct military operations, intelligence, and training, as well as assist local development, potentially including the extraction of rare earth metals.

The evening before, Trump stated that a productive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte laid the foundation for a future agreement on Greenland and the entire Arctic region. Following the negotiations, the American leader announced that he would not impose tariffs against eight European countries that resisted Greenland«s accession to the U.S. Meanwhile, as the newspaper learned, the chiefs of defense staff of NATO in Europe postponed plans for a military mission to Greenland to allow political tensions to subside.

During the forum, Trump stated that the U.S. will not use force to obtain Greenland. He added that America wants to acquire the island to create the «Golden Dome» missile defense system and deter «dangerous adversaries.»

«We want a piece of ice for our own protection. You can say »yes« or »no,« and we will remember,» the U.S. leader threatened.

Despite this, Greenland and Denmark are preparing for a potential U.S. invasion of the island, just in case. Residents have been asked to stock up on food. Politicians assured that they are ready to defend their lands.
